The Career Journey of Jodie Munn, Nail Tutor at Debut Academy

NewsThe Team

From student to teacher, the many opportunities of a career as a Nail Technician.

Jodie entered the nail industry when she began working in a salon at just 17 years old. It was in this salon; she learnt all the relevant skills to pursue nails as her professional career. She gained multiple beauty diplomas including Gel, Fibreglass, Manicures, Pedicures and Nail Art.

After working over the years in various salons, Jodie reached a point in her career where she wanted to branch out and do something different. A new challenge. Something exciting in a new environment. It was then she found Debut Training Academy. In 2011, Jodie enrolled and completed her first course at the academy. Once qualified, she started working on a cruise ship for a company called Steiner. It was here Jodie became certified in using the ‘Creative’ system. During her time with Steiner, Jodie travelled all over the world, from Europe to the Caribbean. Making amazing memories.

When Jodie returned home, she decided to pursue nails as a fully freelance nail technician. She eventually went from being mobile, to having her own home salon. This was very convenient for her, as during this time she became a Mum. Therefore, working for herself gave her the freedom to pick and choose her own hours, and still have time to raise her children.

Despite thoroughly enjoying doing nails from home, Jodie knew that she wanted to branch out in other ways. This is when she made the decision to become a tutor. Being able to educate and help others with the same passion her nails as her was something Jodie wanted to do. She wanted to share her experiences and budding nail technicians the tools they needed to have a successful career in the ever-growing industry.

It was then her career path led her back to Debut Training Academy, only this time not as a student, but as a teacher! Jodie studied once more and gained her teaching qualifications at Debut. These were the qualifications she needed to become a Nail Tutor.

Jodie is now currently teaching a class of 12 learners as well as still working from her home salon. Her future career goals are to become a full-time tutor, but for now, doing both allows her to keep on top of trends, stay up to date with new techniques and consistently hone her skills.

Jodie’s fantastic career journey just shows other nail technicians the number of opportunities there are within the industry. From working on a cruise ship and travelling around the world to becoming a tutor gaining pride from helping others in their future careers.  If you are interested in starting your career as a Nail Technician.
